REGENERATIVE PRACTICES

ROTATIONAL GRAZING

At the ZeeLee Cattle Company, we work hard to provide a naturally healthy and happy life for our animals, making them an integral part of the ecosystem here on the farm. To this end, our cattle are moved to a different paddock, or section, of pasture one to two times per day, depending on the season.

ECOLOGICAL BENEFITS

Soil Health

Soil is the foundation of a thriving ecosystem. Healthy soil is teeming with microorganisms that create a microbiome, contributing to richer nutrients for plants, as well as the organisms that eat them. Additionally, healthy, undisturbed soil stores atmospheric carbon drawn down through plants’ root systems, and helps combat climate change. Large ruminants, including cattle, grazing pastures in a rotational system, are one of the best ways to develop and maintain a healthy, undisturbed soil system. The ZeeLee Cattle Company strives year round to work in partnership with nature in just such a system.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity is another essential component of a healthy, sustainable ecosystem, and is a prime indicator of a land’s health. We are delighted to report that since beginning our life here on the farm, we have seen a TREMENDOUS increase in the biodiversity of our land! Our commitment to ceasing the regular use of chemicals on our pastures and fields, along with implementing intensive rotational grazing practices is making a huge impact on both the number of individuals and the number of plant and animal species here on the farm.
